Hostiles,
directed by Scott Cooper
(Lionsgate, 2017)

In 1892, an Army captain is asked to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through rough territory to an Indian reservation.

This film quite clearly depicts the U.S./Native American relations in the 1800s. It's ugly and brutal, and the scars still remain today. It really is not for the faint of heart, but it's well worth it for a number of excellent performances.

Stars include Christian Bale as Capt. Joseph J. Blocker, Scott Shepherd and Rosamund Pike as Wesley and Rosalee Quaid, and Wes Studi as Chief Yellow Hawk.

Coming from Oklahoma, I'm a huge fan of Wes Studi, and it breaks my heart that he's near bottom of the list of stars in this film because his performance as the chief is stellar and should have at least gotten him a good deal more attention than it did.

I can't say I enjoyed the film. Hostiles is a difficult watch at the very least, but it is a worthwhile watch and a brilliant performance. This is one which is worthy of owning, but I honestly can't say I would ever want to see it again.
