Sophie Milman,
Sophie Milman
(Linus, 2006)

Born to Russian-Jewish parents, Sophie Milman moved to Israel with her family at age 7. Sophie then immigrated to Canada at 16. Now in her 20s, Sophie studies at the University of Toronto when she isn't touring.

On Sophie Milman, her self-titled debut album, Juno nominee Sophie Milman performs jazz standards and contemporary songs far beyond her young years. Sophie performs her songs mostly in English, but she also sings in French and Russian on this album. Sophie sings the standards as though she were born in the era and her contemporary songs sound as if they belong right alongside the classics.

Sophie is breaking into the top 20 and selling out venues in both the United States and Canada. Along the way she has performed with Jesse Clark, Chick Corea, Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers.

Sophie Milman's voice easily fits among the ranks of jazz greats like fellow Canadian songstress Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn.
