Howard Shore,
The Lord of the Rings:
The Return of the King

(Warner Brothers, 2003)

The music of the Lord of the Rings trilogy has been as powerful as the beautifully scripted and and acted film. Without the grace, force and darkness of Howard Shore's musical scores, the films would have been weakened immeasurably.

Shore once again creates a distinct overall mood for the score of The Return of the King, yet has the thread of the first two films interwoven. It's absolutely amazing when you listen to all three scores together. It's impossible not to admire how they all work and complement each other, but have their own entity.

The music is provocative, awe-inspiring and beautiful. And Annie Lennox's closing theme, "Into the West," sets the perfect closing note. Super job!
