15 Minutes, directed by John Herzfeld (New Line Cinema, 2001)
When a Russian, Oleg Rasgul (Oleg Taktrev), and a Czech, Emile Slovak (Karel Roden), arrive in New York City to collect their share of a bank job, they learn that their partner has spent the money. They did not come to America to work and decide the quickest way to fortune and fame is a killing spree. They begin with their former partner and his wife. They set a fire in the apartment to cover the killings, but an eyewitness, Daphne (Vera Farmiga), escapes. The killers decide they need to find her before she talks to the cops. Arson investigator Jordy Warsaw (Edward Burns) reluctantly teams up with veteran homicide detective and local television celebrity Eddie Fleming (Robert DeNiro) to track down the deadly pair while trying to protect the witness. Emile develops a plan to kill Fleming, videotape the murder and sell the tape to a television newscast hosted by Robert Hawkins (Kelsey Grammer). Now, the question becomes ... who's doing the chasing? Everything about this movie is excellent: the special effects and stunts, the acting, the writing, the casting ... everything! This movie simply had everything going in its favor from the beginning. The story is tightly written with extreme character development. Then, they filled the cast with veteran actors. Even the minor parts have major actors ... and they all played their roles to the max. This movie has heavy special effects that are stunning. The car ride will thrill you, but so will the foot chase. And just wait until you're inside the burning apartment. Wow! If you're an action fan, you need to see 15 Minutes. It is well worth the time.
