Tony O'Connell & Andy Morrow
(Claddagh, 2005)

Tony O'Connell, a concertina player from Co. Limerick, and Andy Morrow, a fiddler from Co. Leitrim, have paired up to record a truly enjoyable album. Their self-titled CD is a well-balanced blend of virtuosity and musical maturity.

The recording includes compositions by Carl Hession, Mick O'Dwyer, John Faulkner, Tom McElvogue, Paddy O'Brien and John Martin, as well as an occasional sprinkling of session tunes.

Their unison playing is precise and seemingly effortless, while their solo moments are heartfelt and unforced. They play the melodies with care and control. Tony's concertina playing is quick, yet gentle and always precise. Andy's fiddling is lovely and also very clean, with well-placed bowings and ornaments.

The duo blends together wonderfully, and Arty McGlynn's tasteful, solid guitar accompaniments give the tunes that extra spice that makes this recording a delight to experience.

This CD has recently been featured in Irish Music Magazine and has appeared on the Top Ten bestseller lists in Galway, Ennis and Limerick. Highly recommended for traditional musicians looking to learn tunes, this is a must for Irish trad enthusiasts.
